Privacy policy
This privacy policy explains how Chicken in a Suit (the “Site,” “we,” or “us”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information about you when you visit our website. It is written to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK Data Protection Act 2018, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), Brazil’s Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD), and other applicable data-protection laws.
1. Information we collect
We collect the minimum information necessary to operate the Site and improve our reporting.
- Information you provide directly. If you contact us, subscribe to our newsletter, or submit a tip, we receive your name, email address, and the contents of your message.
- Automatic information. When you load a page, our hosting provider records standard server logs: your IP address, browser user-agent string, the referring URL, and the requested URL. These logs are retained for thirty days for security and abuse-prevention purposes.
- Analytics. When analytics are enabled, our analytics provider receives anonymized, aggregated information about page views, session duration, and visitor geography (country level only). We do not collect or persist personally identifying information through analytics.
- Cookies and similar technologies. See our cookie policy for a detailed breakdown.
2. How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate, maintain, and secure the Site.
- Respond to questions, corrections, and reader feedback.
- Send the newsletter to readers who have explicitly subscribed.
- Improve our reporting and the Site’s structure based on aggregate, anonymized usage patterns.
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from authorities.
3. Advertising and third-party vendors
If display advertising is enabled, third-party advertising vendors — including Google, through services such as AdSense — may collect or receive information from the Site and elsewhere on the internet to provide measurement, personalization, and analytics services. These vendors operate under their own privacy policies, which we link to from our cookie policy.
You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting aboutads.info/choices, youronlinechoices.eu, or by adjusting your browser settings to block third-party cookies.
4. Sharing of information
We do not sell or rent personal information. We share information only as follows:
- With service providers who help us operate the Site (hosting, email delivery, analytics, advertising), under written agreements requiring confidentiality and lawful processing.
- When required by law, regulation, legal process, or a valid governmental request.
- To protect our rights, the safety of users, or the integrity of the Site, where there is a legitimate basis to do so.
5. International transfers
Our hosting infrastructure may transfer information to data centers in jurisdictions outside your home country. Where we transfer personal data of EU/UK residents, we use Standard Contractual Clauses or rely on adequacy decisions issued by the relevant authority.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete personal information.
- Delete personal information, subject to legal-retention exceptions.
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Receive a portable copy of personal information you provided.
- Withdraw consent at any time where processing relies on consent.
- Lodge a complaint with your national data-protection authority.
To exercise any right, write to privacy@example.com. We respond within thirty days.
7. Children
The Site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact privacy@example.com.
8. Security
We use industry-standard security measures — TLS-encrypted transport, restricted backend access, and routine security review — to protect information we hold. No system is perfectly secure; we do not guarantee absolute security.
9. Updates
We update this policy when our practices change in a material way, not when our vendors change. The “last updated” date above is the source of truth. Material changes will be highlighted on the homepage for at least seven days following publication.
10. Contact
For privacy questions, requests, or complaints, write to privacy@example.com. The data controller is Chicken in a Suit, operating from the publisher’s home jurisdiction listed on the about page.
