Our principles

  1. Accuracy first. Get it right or wait.
  2. Independence. Editorial decisions are made by editors, full stop. Advertisers, sponsors and partners do not influence story selection or framing.
  3. Transparency. When we make a meaningful editorial decision, we explain it. When we err, we say so plainly.
  4. Respect for sources. We protect anonymity when promised. We do not record without consent. We do not use sources as PR channels for ourselves.
  5. Service to the reader. Our test for any story is whether it makes the reader’s understanding of the world better. If it doesn’t, we don’t run it.
